So, a few of you lucky sea dogs have chosen one of the most beautiful and most mysterious secret routes of the Adriatic – a route where even the bravest have faltered, the secret route of the queen of the once great kingdom of mighty Illyria, the beautiful Queen Teuta, whom all emperors and rulers hated, because she ruled with kind words and a gentle hand.
But this is not just a treasure hunt; it is also a story about the unbreakable spirit of a people, a story about a treasure that no lucky sea dog has yet had the pleasure of seeing with their own eyes, and about the greatest mystery of all – the disappearance of Queen Teuta without a trace.
Raise the flag, unfurl the sails, strap on your pistols and get ready, because we are setting off on the greatest adventure in the Adriatic.
Our journey leads us to the island of Svetac (St. Andrew).
There are several legends about her time there, but one of them says that, because of its position at the crossroads of sea routes, Svetac was Teuta’s base for piracy. From her stronghold she would watch the ships passing nearby, and with her fast boats she would intercept and attack them.
Queen Teuta, of whom the people said that she was “wiser than a snake, braver than a lion, and of fairy‑like beauty,” was also loved for her fair treatment of everyone.
Among a people forged and hardened in red‑hot steel and battle, Teuta is a rare ruler about whom stories and legends are still told, and that alone shows what a warrior – and what a Queen – she truly was.
